Back to the Butterflies

The break and J-Term are finally over so today I got to see the butterflies for the first time in more than a month. I was a little sad as there weren’t as many that had emerged from their cocoons as usual, but I got to help one emerging which kind of made up for it. During the time I was gone I guess a lot of little things changed. One of the more obvious differences is the way we hang up the cocoons now. They found a more space-saving friendly method so now there are more rows of butterfly cocoons than before by about 3x. I also realized that I’ve learned so much in the time I’ve been interning here. I could tell some of the butterflies’ cocoons apart by Latin names and fill out the forms about how each species emerged really easily, which was  wild.
The changes are definitely something to get used to but I’m  happy to just be back with my little butterfly puppies again. Hopefully, the next time I visit them there will be more emerged that I can see!

A butterfly I watched emerge from its cocoon.

A little Red Peacock butterfly I befriended.

One of the boards we use to hold cocoons.

A pretty blue swirly butterfly that I don’t know the name of.
